Hello Readers,

Hurricane Ian has landed off of Florida’s West Coast. As a Category 4 hurricane, it has 155 miles per hour winds (Category 5 starts at 157 miles per hour). It is devastating. We will find out later what damage has been done and how many lives have been lost. Less than 24 hours before the hurricane was set to land, I saw on the news that some people were jogging. Everyone must be very cooperative with the authorities and if there is a call for evacuation, they must evacuate immediately.

Now, Florida governor Ron DeSantis said to everyone that it is too late to evacuate and for those who stayed to find shelter and stay indoors. “Local Talk” and its staff will pray for the people in the path of Hurricane Ian.

Politics are such that most of us cannot understand. After Russia reduced the gas supply from their two gas lines, Nord Stream 1 and 2, there was an underwater explosion that stopped gas from Russia to Europe. The European Union’s top diplomat said that the explosion was a deliberate act by Moscow, which the Kremlin denied. As the world suffers from economic turmoil, the world should stay together to try and stop inflation and solve the problems, rather than create more problems.

As per CNN: “Then-President Donald Trump nearly fired his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner from the White House via tweet, according to a new book from New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman. Trump raised the prospect of firing Ivanka Trump and Kushner, who were both senior White House aides, during meetings with then-chief of staff John Kelly and then-White House counsel Don McGahn, Haberman writes. At one point, he was about to tweet that his daughter and son-in-law were leaving the White House – but he was stopped by Kelly, who told Trump he had to speak with them directly first. Trump never had such a conversation – one of numerous instances where he avoided interpersonal conflict – and Ivanka Trump and Kushner remained at the White House throughout Trump’s presidency. Still, Trump often diminished Kushner, mocking him as effete, Haberman writes.”

Rutgers University has enrolled about 6,500 students for the new year. The University has remained the same since 2017, a little up and down in their enrollment of students. Rutgers has three campuses: Newark, New Brunswick and Camden. The best part of the Rutgers enrollment is that about 50% are male students and about 50% are female students.

Montclair State University had a record-breaking enrollment, as they welcomed 4,065 students this fall 2022 semester. New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is starting the 2022 academic year by setting records with its largest and most diverse student body ever. Total projected enrollment is up 21% over the last 10 years to hit its highest mark yet at 12,000 students.

Former New Jersey Governor James Florio has passed away at age 85. He had a long career in the political world, serving as a U.S. Congressman and Assemblyman before his time in charge of the state as the 49th governor. “Local Talk” sends our condolences to his family and friends.

Have a wonderful week. I’ll talk to you next week.
