Boxing is coming to the city of East Orange next weekend at East Orange Campus High School for the first time ever. Professionals and amateurs will take to the ring at this event on April 26th. The main fight will feature East Orange native Rajon Chance taking on Yan Carlos Perez in a 10 round bout for the WBA belt

Other fights on the card include Tyler Vanorden taking on Chicago Smith in a 4 round match, and Ronny Reyes from New York City will compete in a 6 round fight against Michael Ruiz from Toms River. Additional fights will showcase Terry Lang, Deshawn McDonald and Yoel Cooper.

A press conference was held last week in East Orange at the Fellowship Civic Center. Jamal Pierceson, director of the East Orange Recreation Center, said that the city was excited about the event. Also attending the press conference was boxing promoter Shane Adams, Jr., who was excited to put this event together to bring back boxing to East Orange.

Also on the card is Amari Wright, who said she was excited to be part of this event. Among supporters of the event is the East Orange Police Athletic League.

This past Monday, the Women’s National Basketball Association held its annual basketball draft in New York City. To no surprise, the Dallas Wings took Connecticut Huskies All American Paige Bueckers with the #1 overall pick. With the second pick, the Seattle Storm selected Dominique Malonga from France. The Washington Mystics were next up, taking Sonia Citron from the University of Notre Dame and Kiki Iriafen from USC with the third and fourth picks. Rounding out the top five was the new expansion team, the Golden State Valkyries, who selected Juste Joycyte from Lithuania.

Other notable picks included the Chicago Sky taking TCU star Hailey Van Lith, the Washington Mystics taking Lucy Olsen from Iowa in the second round, the Valkyries taking Kaitlyn Chen, who transferred from the Princeton Tigers to play with Bueckers and National Champion UConn, and the Las Vegas Aces taking Harmoni Turner from Harvard.
