At the Prudential Center, the SHU men’s team had their struggles continue. Despite a strong comeback, the Pirates fell short to Providence 69-67. The Hall got 19 points from Prince Aligbe, 13 from Garwey Dual and Dylan Addae Wusu each. SHU is 6-15 on the season.
In Essex County high school basketball, I had a opportunity to check out the Orange High girls basketball team host an Essex County Tournament game. The Tornadoes beat Irvington 51-27. Sophomore Shamia Fryer led Orange with 22 points in the game along with 10 rebounds. OHS is 10-7 on the year with key wins over West Side, Technology and even Shabazz and Barringer. However, they would lose in the tournament to Science Park 70-30.
In boys action, Orange lost to Seton Hall Prep 79-48. Leading orange was Kysir Green with 22 points, with six 3-pointers. Seton Hall Prep got 18 points from Daniel Beazer while Anthony Gonzalez had 15 points and 8 rebounds. Despite the loss, OHS is 6-1 in the Super Essex Conference, including a 58-57 win over Columbia this past week. In other action, it was Arts High school beating Millburn 77-58, and University beating Central 80-36.
Finally, the NBA is reeling after big trades that saw Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic to the Lakers for Anthony Davis, and Kings star De’Aaron Fox shipped to the Spurs in a three team deal that had Zach LaVine sent to Fox’s former team and Kevin Huerter traded to the Bulls.
