This past weekend in the city of Newark at the Prudential Center, the Brick City Boxing Classic was held. Boxers from the tri-state area took part on a card that featured 12 matches.
In the first bout, Justin Palmieri defeated Zachary Davis by unanimous decision in a 4 round exhibition. Next up was Irvington’s Jean Pierre Valencia, who dropped Cory Jenkins in the first round to win a middleweight division match by knockout in this fight.
Other notable matches included Plainfield native KahShad Elliott earned a 2nd Round TKO win over Edwin Naichap in a junior middleweight division bout. Erasmo Rosado Jr. from Paterson knocked out Douglas Walsh in a 1st Round KO. Newark native Keith Colon knocked out Robert Munn from Houston. Another Newark native, Anthony Johns, beat Edwin Reves.
For the main event, Daniel Gonzalez from Woodhaven in Queens beat Newark’s own Michael Anderson by unanimous decision in a championship fight.
In the NFL, neither team made use of home field advantage at MetLife Stadium. First, the Giants found a way to lose to the Cincinnati Bengals 17-7. Then, on Monday Night Football, Aaron Rodgers might have connected on one of his patented Hail Mary passes at the end of the first half, but threw a backbreaking interception in the second half, causing the Jets to lose to the Buffalo Bills 23-20. Rodgers and Gang Green will get help soon, as the team finalized a deal to acquire Davante Adams from the Raiders for a conditional draft pick.
