This season, the Gotham FC Soccer Team is doing well, winning key games at the right time. Their winning ways continued this past Saturday night at Red Bulls Stadium in Harrison, as the local FC defeated the Bay FC 5-1.
The highlight of the night was Gotham netting 4 goals in 14 minutes. First up was Jenna Nighswonger, who scored on a Penalty Kick for the 1-0 lead nine minutes in. Bay would strike back, with Asisat Oshoala tying it in the 18th minute.
Then, after some fine defense that extended into the second half, Gotham blew the doors open. At 70 minutes in, Rose Lavelle gave the home team a 2-1 advantage. Then, Esther Gonzalez scored at 72’ and 74’, with CeCe Kizer putting a cherry on top at 84’ for the win. Team captain Lynn Williams played in her 150th game played in the game.
Before the game, Gotham celebrated women’s sports night. There was a fanfest held for fans outside the stadium. Also at the game was Latin Grammy winner Mireya Ramos and her Band. Finally, Ali Krieger hosted a meet and greet with the fans in the inner plaza at the stadium.
As for the usual tenant, the New York Red Bulls suffered a tough loss on the road at Atlanta United FC 2-1.
In WNBA action, the New York Liberty ended the Las Vegas Aces run for a third straight title, winning the series finale, 76-62. The win sent the Liberty back to the WNBA Finals, where they seek to win the first championship in franchise history.
Finally, in the NFL, the Jets went over to London and lost to Minnesota 23-17. Coming back home, they shed excess weight by firing head coach Robert Saleh. On the other side of the world in Seattle, the Giants stunned the Seahawks with a 29-20 win. Big Blue secured the win on a blocked field goal attempt and TD runback.
