This past week, the New York Red Bulls were on the road against rival New York FC, losing a close one 2-1. The Red Bulls are currently in 5th place in the Eastern Conference with a 6-3 overall record.
In the game, FC’s Hannes Wolf scored on a goal to put his team up 1-0 in the 3rd minute of the game. NYRB midfielder Cameron Harper tied it at 1-1, but in the 2nd half, Tayvon Gray got behind the Red Bulls’ backline and scored the game winner for NY FC in the 64th minute.
Red Bulls head coach Sandro Schwartz said, “We lost a tough game. Now, we just got to get prepared for the next game.”
In WNBA action, the New York Liberty won their first four games at the start of the season, with a recent win in the home opener over the Indiana Fever 91-80. Leading NY was Breanna Stewart with 24 points, Jonquel Jones added 14 points and 12 rebounds and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton had 13 points. Any game with the Fever will obviously feature Caitlin Clark, who led her team with 24 points.
Not everything has been perfect with the Liberty, as lost a tough home game against the Chicago Sky 90-81. The Sky were led by their own phenom rookie Angel Reese, who had 13 points and 9 rebounds.
In other sports news, longtime MLB umpire Angel Hernandez has retired. Hernandez was infamous for controversial calls. Finally, basketball legend Bill Walton has died after a bout of cancer at the age of 71.
