HOOD
Most often, when someone inquires about my always wearing caps or hats on my head, they usually find my response to be both humorous and shocking. They are worn to block the overload of stimuli that is constantly vying for my attention, among other things, which at this time I choose not to share.
When auditioning, they pop up as if saying, “Look at me!” and another, “No, look at me!” and then the others, and so on and so on. It can be likened to being surrounded by a bunch of preschoolers begging for their teacher’s attention at the same time. Just like the teacher, I’ve found an easily digestible and comforting way to quiet them down as saying, “Shut up,” and that’s where the headgear comes in.
But on the flip side, I have an appreciation for the beauty of such sensory overload. Daily, when I’m out and about, whether I am driving or walking, my camera phone is always ready to capture the imagery that has made the cut when in hyper mode, which has pleasantly introduced me to my own hypermedia of sorts. I can’t even begin to dabble upon the numbers that compile my stockpiles. I often consider the photos that are taken on the fly or intentionally as dumps to free up headspace. But quite recently, I realized that they are best utilized when shared, as opposed to stored and dumped. When I look out there, I see that people need to also see the overflow of such beauty.
For the most part I find my neighborhood, the HOOD, and its people to be absolutely fascinating. I zoom into Mocha most often because of our movement and the blatant showings of variables in the artistry of that DNA, which is breathtakingly beautiful. I am rapidly becoming the ultimate observer even more so, and I want to share that with you. When you’re out there in those HOODSCAPES, really look at our HOOD and its inhabitants.
It’s mind blowing, because “BEAUTY IS ALL AROUND US IF WE CAN SEE, WHAT WE SEE!”
DID YA KNOW THAT…
“Hood” is a slang term for a neighborhood, especially an urban neighborhood with a low socioeconomic status and predominantly African American residents. It can also refer to a ghetto or impoverished area. As an adjective, “hood” is used to culturally identify a person or object from such an area.
Street photography is photography conducted for art or inquiry that features unmediated chance encounters and random incidents within public places, usually with the aim of capturing images at a decisive or poignant moment by careful framing and timing. – Wikipedia
