Last Saturday, the 2023 Heisman Trophy ceremony took place in New York City with plenty of excitement to determine the best player in college football. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels overcame being outside the College Football Playoff with a prolific season that Heisman voters could not be ignore. Daniels won the Heisman Trophy, becoming the first player since 2016 to win the award outside of the Playoff.
Daniels received 503 first place votes and 2,029 points overall. The runner up was Washington QB Michael Penix Jr., while Oregon QB Bo Nix from Oregon finished third and Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison, Jr. was fourth.
The two top collegiate teams in the tri-state went head to head in the annual Hardwood Classic at the Prudential Center. In a Big East vs. Big Ten clash, Rutgers came out the victor at the end, beating Seton Hall 70-63. Jamichael Davis gave RU with 11 points and 6 assists, Mawot Mag had 8 rebounds and Cliff Omoruyi had 11 points, 13 rebounds and 7 blocked shots and Noah Fernandes led the scoring with 19 points. Leading SHU was Kadary Richmond with 21 points and 9 rebounds.
