Before we head to the court for this week’s local action, we have to talk about the shocking College Football Playoff. Michigan earned the #1 seed while Washington ranked #2 thanks to their undefeated seasons. However, Texas took the #3 seed while Alabama, who Texas beat earlier in the season, took the 4th and final spot.

Both Texas and Alabama have one loss apiece, unlike Florida State who finished undefeated, but was slotted at #5, and out of the picture. Despite meeting all the requirements to compete for the National Championship, FSU got jobbed out for playing a backup quarterback, even though Ohio State won the National Title a while back with a 3rd string QB in Cardale Jones.

In college basketball, this past weekend the Seton Hall women’s basketball team defended Walsh Gym against Maryland Eastern Shore 75-54. Leading SHU was Azana Baines and Savannah Catalon with 17 points apiece after only leading only by four points at the half.

The Lady Pirates dominated the Hawks in the 2nd half thanks to 63 percent shooting from the field and Amari Wright’s 8 points, 10 assists and three steals. Seton Hall forced 24 turnovers in this game, and has a current record of 5-3 on the season.

On the men’s side, the Pirates beat Northeastern by the final score of 88-75. Kadary Richmond led SHU with 21 points and 6 rebounds on 9-16 shooting. Al Amir Dawes had 25 points. The Pirates were on fire, shooting 75 percent from the floor.

The Hardwood Classic will return to the Prudential Center this Saturday, with Rutgers and Seton Hall renewing their rivalry.
