The New York Red Bulls have advanced to the Round of 32 in the League Cup this past weekend at home. Just like in the last round against the New York Revolution, it was a defensive game against Atletico De San Luis. Both teams failed to score early on, but Red Bulls forward Dante Vanzeir was assisted on a goal by John Tolkin in the 56th minute in the 2nd half. Vanzeir  and Tolkin hooked up the same way later in added time after the 90th minute, and Carlos Coronel did well in net to save the 2-1 win for NY, as the Red Bulls will now take on New York FC this coming Thursday.

In other sports news, the Orange High School Tornadoes football program with head coach Khalfani Alleyne along with the Orange Bengals were presented a check for $10,000 from the New York Giants Football Foundation. Among those taking part in this event were former OHS Tornado and NY Giant Jason Alford, who came to support his former high school program and its players. The Orange football players got a chance to watch the New York Giants training camp in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Finally, the New York Mets decided to wave the white flag, trading their two ace pitchers. First, Max Scherzer was traded to the Texas Rangers after waiving his no-trade clause. Then, Justin Verlander was reunited with the team he won a World Series with last year, as he was traded to the Houston Astros.
