This past weekend in the City of Newark it was the official celebrity boxing event that took place in front of City Hall. It was a showcase of local talent and youth boxing that featured many of the boxing clubs throughout Newark, with people ages starting at 8 years old and up to 28 years old taking part.

There were about 12 boxing matches that lasted about 3 minutes by round. Among those on hand were Nasir Graham, the program coordinator and boxing director and Donnell Redding Acting Director of Recreation and Cultural Affairs and Senior Services, who said the event it was about supporting the youth and at-risk children at the Boxing Academy.

Other groups that attended this event included the Brick City Peace Collective and the Office of Violence Prevention, the Newark health department and the Wali Moses, the grandfather of Shakur Stevenson. Also, local area high school bands came out, including the Weequahic High School Marching Band and the Essex Union County Band and Damon Feldman CEO of Celebrity Boxing came out. Finally, Mayor Ras Baraka also attended this event, and the Girls of Hope step team came out and did a performance.

In the NBA Playoffs, the Philadelphia 76ers became the first team to advance, after sweeping the Nets 4-0. Not long after, Denver eliminated Minnesota 4-1, while the Suns got rid of the Clippers 4-1 as well. Meanwhile, the Knicks are up in their series against the Cavaliers.

Finally, the long nightmare is over, as the Green Bay Packers have agreed to trade Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets for a package of draft picks.
