September 11th, 2001 is a day that we as a country will never forget, as many Americans died. Still, we remember the sacrifices made, and the Never Forget Tribute Classic is a way that college basketball pays tribute to the families who lost loved ones. The Classic started back during the 2016-2017 basketball season, and has become an annual event held at the Prudential Center.

This past Saturday, the event featured the Villanova Wildcats taking on their former Big East rival Boston College Eagles. Nova dominated BC to win the game going away 77-56. Cam Whitmore led Villanova with 19 points and 7 rebounds, while Caleb Daniels had 12 points and 5 rebounds and Mark Armstrong added 13 points and 7 rebounds. As a team, the Wildcats shot 44 percent going 24-54 from the field. Meanwhile, Boston College got 13 a piece from Mason Madson and DeMarr Langford Jr. The Eagles were plagued by 19 turnovers and only shooting 39 percent from the floor.

Head coach Kyle Neptune said in his post-game comments that it was an honor for his team to participate in this game and pay tribute to the families and the victims of September 11th. Boston College was wearing special edition Red Bandana uniforms in honor of Welles Remy Crowther, who died in the terrorist attacks. Crowther was a volunteer firefighter from Nyack, New York.

In the annual Garden State Hardwood Basketball Classic, the Seton Hall men’s basketball team defeated Rutgers 45-43 in a big rivalry game. The Pirates handed the Scarlet Knights their first home loss at the Jersey Mike’s Arena. The MVP of the game was KC Ndefo who won the Joe Calabrese Award. Leading Seton Hall was Tray Jackson and Dre Davis with 10 points each. The Hall’s record now sits at 6-4 on the season.

In football news, both the Giants and Jets took Ls this past Sunday. At least the Jets were respectable in their 20-12 loss at AFC East leading Buffalo. The Giants were not so worthy, losing 48-22 at home to NFC East leading Philadelphia.

Finally, in an all quarterback field, USC’s Caleb Williams won the 2022 Heisman Trophy over Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, Georgia’s Stetson Bennett IV, and TCU’s Max Duggan.
