Week 1 of the 2022 New Jersey high school football season is in the books. The Irvington Blue Knights are now 2-0 on the season after winning a tough defensive game against highly ranked Millville at Rutgers’ SHI Stadium 25-17. Famah Toure and Kysir Desir got the Blue Knights on the board with a pair of 1 yard touchdown runs, while CJ Pittman netted a 65 yard TD pass to lead the squad to a win. The Irvington defense was tough as usual, and now a showdown of epic scale is on the way.

The East Orange Jaguars did not fare as well, losing to Clifton on the road 21-0. Clifton was bent on revenge after losing to the Jaguars in the title game last year. East Orange will take on the aforementioned Blue Knights in their next game, a matchup of two reigning state champions.

In a pleasant surprise, the Orange Tornadoes went on the road and blew away Paterson Kennedy 21-0. Meanwhile, the West Orange High School Mountaineers defeated Montclair 13-7 on Friday night at Montclair State University.

In MLB, Aaron Judge is smashing home runs left and right. On Sept. 7, he set the new team record for most homers in a season by a Yankees’ right handed batter with 55. Judge has enough time to reach 62 home runs, which would pass the mark by Roger Maris and set a new team and American League record.

On Thursday night, the NFL season is set to open, with the defending champion Los Angeles Rams hosting the Buffalo Bills. Locally, the Jets will host the Baltimore Ravens, while the Giants will travel to Tennessee to play the Titans.

Finally, it is possible that the legendary career of Serena Williams may be over, after a three set loss in the third round of the U.S. Open to Ajla Tomljanovic 7-5, 6-7, 6-1. Williams has recently said that she would look to transition away from tennis.
