Another week is in the books for the New Jersey high school football season. Irvington’s Blue Knights are now 3-0 on the season, taking a thrilling battle of state champions over the East Orange Campus Jaguars 27-21. Famah Toure sealed the win for the Knights on a 5 yard touchdown run in double overtime. Irvington previously beat Millville and Woodbridge in the start of the season. The Blue Knights this week will play Columbia this weekend.
West Orange is 2-0 on the year so far. The Mountaineers beat the Bloomfield Bengals on the road 34-7 this past Friday night. Meanwhile, Seton Hall Prep was off this week after a victory against a tough Pope John team. Prep will battle legacy squad Bergen Catholic next weekend. Finally, the Orange Tornadoes got close, but fell at Bell Stadium against Bayonne. The Tornadoes were behind 18-0 at the half before rallying at home to get the score close. However, they would go on to lose 18-12. Orange will be on the road against West Side this Saturday.
Week one of the NFL season kicked off, with the Jets losing at MetLife Stadium to the Ravens 24-9. Joe Flacco didn’t do much for Gang Green after subbing for injury signal caller Zach Wilson. On the other hand, the Giants finally won the first game of the season for the first time in years, successfully converting a two-point conversion with 1:04 left in the game to stun the Titans in Tennessee 21-20.
Finally, by the next edition of “Local Talk,” Yankees slugger Aaron Judge may have 60 home runs on the year, while Cardinals legend Albert Pujols might have 700 homers for his career.
