This week has a combination of the upcoming NFL Draft and the NBA playoffs. First, despite being the odds-on favorite to win the title, the Nets have been swept out of the postseason, after a 116-112 loss to the Boston Celtics, giving that squad a 4-0 series win. Point guard Kyrie Irving has a player option for next season, while there is no certainty as to whether or not Ben Simmons would ever bother to play again.
As for the other half of the Simmons trade, James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers are facing a fight with the Toronto Raptors, who forced a Game 6 after beating Philly on the road 103-88. The Raptors are coming off of two straight wins. The winner will likely take on the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks, who might have finished off Chicago by the time you read this.
The Miami Heat had no such issue is getting rid of the Atlanta Hawks in five games, while in the West, the Mavericks are in control over the Jazz, Golden State is handling Denver, the Suns are sweating it out over the Pelicans, and Memphis is in a tight battle with Minnesota.
Switching to the NFL Draft, the New York Giants and Jets are looking to improve their rosters, with Big Blue’s new general manager Joe Schoen and his Gang Green counterpart Joe Douglas. This year’s draft will be held in Las Vegas, with Travon Walker, a pass rusher out of Georgia, projected as the top pick to Jacksonville. This is the second straight year the Jaguars will have the #1 overall selection, after taking Trevor Lawrence last year.
Finally, in Major League Baseball, Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera celebrated his 3,000th career hit. He joins Hank Aaron and Willie Mays as the only players in MLB history to have 3,000 hits, 500 home runs, and a career .300 batting average.
