EAST ORANGE – On November 5, 2021, Mayor Ted R. Green, the East Orange City Council and East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi scheduled a press conference in connection with the investigation into the disappearance of 14-year-old Jashyah Moore.
The missing young girl’s mother told authorities she last saw Jashyah on October 14 after she never returned from a morning trip to Poppie’s Deli at 520 Central Avenue, not far from their 3rd Ward home. Since then, EOPD has been working in collaboration with the FBI, the New Jersey State Police, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office to follow all leads related to Jashyah’s whereabouts.
According to employees and surveillance footage from that date, Jashyah entered the store with an older male who paid for her items at the register. The footage does not appear to show the two leaving together.
Jashyah is 5 ft, 5 inch tall and weighs about 135 pounds. She was last seen by her mother wearing khaki pants, a black jacket and black boots.
“Our police officers are working closely with our partnering agencies, analyzing data and following all tips that may lead us to Jashyah so we can bring her safely home,” said EOPD Chief Bindi. “We are asking for the public’s assistance and we urge anyone with information to contact our Tips Hotline at 973.266.5041.
