NEWARK – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara announced that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, are investigating two fatal shootings
On Sunday Aug. 15, Newark Police responded to the 700 block of South 18th Street on a report of a shooting. Following additional investigative steps, they later found the victim, Tony Madison, 36, of Newark, in a vehicle in the 400 block of Avon Avenue with fatal injuries. Madison was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:23 pm. Another male victim was also shot but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
On Monday, Aug. 16 at approximately 7:53 pm Newark Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Central Avenue and South 9th Street.
Police found the victim, Antonio McCrimmon, 27, of Newark, in the street. He was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:07 pm.
