The 2021 the East Coast Spring Football season has come to an end, with a great contest by both teams in the championship game. Last week, the East Orange All-Stars shutout a tough Orange All-Stars team to make it back to the title game, where they played an undefeated Union County Vipers with a record of 5-0.
It was a battle to the end, and the Vipers slipped by East Orange 20-12. The contest was played before a packed stadium in Roselle. Union County finished with a 6-0 undefeated season. This age group was a 15 and under group bracket.
In other local sports news, the Irvington Blue Knights high school varsity flag football team has been doing well this season. In a recent game, the Knights defeated Ramapo on the road in a 37-12 victory, the most points scored in a women’s flag football game.
The 2021 Greater Newark Baseball Tournament was held these past couple of weeks. In the quarterfinal round of this year’s tournament, Millburn beat Bloomfield 13-3 at Millburn High School. Also, Montclair High School beating Livingston 5-3, and West Essex beat Verona 5-4. In the semifinal round, Millburn beat Montclair 5-3, and Seton Hall Prep beating West Essex 10-1. The championship game saw Millburn edge by Seton Hall Prep at Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University 6-5, in a great game by both teams.
