The East Orange All Stars spring football program has once again made it to the finals in the East Coast Spring Football League. EO scored a big 20-0 playoff win over the Orange All Stars rec football team, making it the third time this season they beat Orange. East Orange will be heading to the championship game against the Union County Vipers, who are 5-0 on the season, while EO has a season record of 4-1.
In other area sports, the Orange High School wrestling squad celebrated a milestone in recent weeks. Senior Merlin Senat captured his 100th career victory during the first ever outdoor two day wresting event held at Bell Stadium in Orange. The Tornadoes wrestling team competed against Summit, but lost the match 45-20.
In high school baseball, the annual Greater Newark Tournament was held this past weekend, in which Millburn defeated Montclair 5-3. The championship game will be held at Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University, where Millburn will face a tough Seton Hall Prep team.
Finally, the New York Yankees had an unusual round of COVID-19 cases, in which eight people, including Gleyber Torres, tested positive. These cases were called “breakthrough cases,” as al were vaccinated, although reportedly with the less effective Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Also, Phoenix Suns head coach Month Williams was named Coach of the Year, much to the disappointment of Knicks fans, who felt that coach Tom Thibodeau should have gotten the award after leading NY to a #4 seed in the playoffs.
