The NCAA tournament had a bunch of games this weekend in Indianapolis. The Sweet 16 saw Oregon State defeated Loyola of Chicago 65-58 at Bankers Field House. Baylor defeated Villanova and then Arkansas to win the South Region. In other action Houston defeated Syracuse and then Oregon State 67-61, giving them the Midwest Region.
Top seeded Gonzaga defeated Creighton and USC, improving the Bulldogs’ record to 30-0 on the season. After last season was abruptly ended, the West Region winner Gonzaga is currently on a 34-game winning streak. Meanwhile, UCLA and Alabama went into overtime, but ‘Bama struggled from the foul line, and lost the game 88-78. The Bruins then went on to beat sole Big Ten survivor Michigan 51-49 to win the East Region.
In the Women’s NCAA Tournament, UConn won the made another Final Four after a controversial 69-67 that saw Baylor denied a foul call in the closing moments. Also, top seeded Stanford tamed Louisville 78-63, Louisville beat Oregon 60-42, South Carolina defeated Texas tech 62-34, and Arizona beat Indiana 66-53.
With these results, the Men’s Final Four will start with Gonzaga against UCLA, and Houston vs. Baylor. The Women’s Final Four will pit UConn against Arizona, and South Carolina vs. Stanford.
Finally, the Major League Baseball 2021 season will officially open this week, with the New York Yankees at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. Both the Yankees and Mets will be able to have fans in the stands this season.
