Hello Readers,
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is facing a lot of scrutiny right now. First, for allegedly underreporting coronavirus-related nursing home deaths by as much as 50%. The purpose of the underreporting was to avoid federal scrutiny. While this criticism was going on, three women came forward accusing him of sexual misconduct. On February 16, Cuomo admitted that he made a mistake withholding the nursing home deaths.
Regarding the harassment allegations, according to FOX News on March 3, “Cuomo apologizes after misconduct allegations but denies touching anyone ‘inappropriately.’ He further said, ‘I am embarrassed.’
CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, brother of Andrew Cuomo said that he has nothing to do with his brother. Chris said, “Obviously, I’m aware of what’s going on with my brother. And, obviously, I cannot cover it, because he is my brother. Now, of course. CNN has to cover it.”
As usual, when the ship is sinking, everyone leaves, except the captain. Right now, Andrew Cuomo is the only one on his side.
President Joseph Biden mentioned $1,400 stimulus checks in his many speeches. There were some Democratic senators who had a problem with the plan. Finally, they agreed to restraining the extended income limit. Before, it was $75,000 for an individual, and $150,000 for a married couple. Then, it was extended to $100,000 for an individual and $200,000 for couples. They must have been married for at least one year. Now, with the new proposal, the extended limit remained the same, but the proposed amendment will restrict the extended income limit. With the new amendment, it should be passed in the Senate, and then it has to go back to the House under reconciliation rules. So, by next week, (hopefully) people will start getting their money.
On March 4, the U.S. Capitol Police Department announced it had obtained intelligence that suggests a militia group is plotting to potentially breach the Capitol building on March 5. This time, I feel that Washington’s Police, the Capitol Police, federal government and National Guard will protect this time without any problem.
According to Bloomberg News: “Donald Trump is telling allies he’s strongly considering another run for president in 2024 – and close advisers want him to choose someone other than former Vice President Mike Pence for his ticket, according to people familiar with the discussions.”
Trump is considering a run in 2024 without Pence. However, if that happens, we might see Pence running as a presidential hopeful for the Republican Party. If that happens, it will be interesting to see the battle for the Republican party nomination. However, Trump will wait to see the 2022 election where the House and several Senate seats are decided. With a +1 gain in the Senate, Republicans will reclaim the majority there. The house also has a thin majority for the Democrats. If Nancy Pelosi continues as Speaker, the Democrats might lose their majority in the chamber.
Have a wonderful week.
I’ll talk to you next week.
