NEWARK – Former Newark Deputy Police Director John C. Arnold, Jr. has publicly announced his candidacy to run in the upcoming June primary election for the Office of Sheriff.
John Arnold is a 30-year law enforcement professional who in addition to serving as Captain of Detectives with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office until his retirement in 2010, was appointed in 2014 to serve as the #2 leader of t over 1000+ police and civilian personnel as Newark’s Deputy Police Director by Mayor Ras J. Baraka.
John Arnold’s extensive law enforcement experience and long list of accomplishments mirrors that of his well known father, former Newark Lieutenant John Arnold, Sr. Here is just a summary of his vast career:
· Served honorably as a United States Marine.
· Became a Police Officer with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, NJ in 1985.
· Was hired as a Detective with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
· Worked diligently as an Undercover Detective in the Narcotics, Major Crimes, and Homicide Divisions respectfully.
· Served as a member of The Essex-Union Auto Theft Task Force.
· Worked eagerly with other law enforcement agencies like the Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms Task Force (ATF) and the Essex County Sheriff’s Bureau of Narcotics (BON).
As Captain of Detectives, he also served as the Commander of highly sensitive and high profile units such as Homicide, The Viper/Essex County Gangs Task Force, Child Abuse and Adult Trials. He also served as the Assistant Commander of Drug Enforcement Operations.
John Arnold holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Theology, and is a respected member of the Clergy as a Sr. Pastor.
