Hello Readers,

The weather forecasters scared everyone, stating that it might be 18” to 24” of snowfall in North Jersey. Many companies took off for half a day on Wednesday and the full day on Thursday, due to constant warnings from the news media and government administrators. We are lucky that the Nor’easter has not made havoc like in 2018. This time, Newark had about 9” to 11” of snow, Oranges had about 7” and Maplewood and Irvington had about 5.6” of snow. The preparation was good this time, so hopefully the snowplowing and cleaning will be over by the time you get this.

The biggest news is vaccination. After approval of the Pfizer vaccine on December 10, 2020, they have started vaccinations for doctors, nurses and medical staff, nursing home staff and patients. The seniors will be next in line. So far, only 61% agreed to vaccinate themselves. According to medical predictions, we need at least 70% of people vaccinated to reach herd immunity. That means we can more freely move in and out in our communities, grocery stores and restaurants, theaters, and we all can enjoy life once again.

Officially, Joseph Biden became president-elect with Kamala Harris as his vice president. In 2016, Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton by 306 electoral votes to 232 votes. After 4 years, the Biden-Harris team won by same numbers over the Trump-Pence team. Now it is our duty to accept the results and think about the United States of America. We all should think of our country. It will not be easy. In the Democratic Party some of the progressives started talking about their involvement with the administration to keep control. However, so far Biden has not declared any progressive candidate in his cabinet.

Pete Buttigieg is the second opponent (first was Kamala Harris) in Democratic Party primary to be included in his cabinet. Also, Buttigieg is the first openly accepted LGBTQ person to serve in any cabinet. Former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey came out as gay when he resigned due to an extramarital affair (Adultery) in 2004. Now, being LGBTQ is more widely accepted and more people openly declare their status.

There is big news in Nigeria, Africa. About 333 children were kidnapped from a secondary school by Boko Haram. The worst part that their own government initially denied to do something about finding them and getting the children back to their families. So, the government is afraid of Boko Haram, a terrorist group. The United Nations also called to find the children, and get them back to them to their families. I heard from some Local Talk readers that the intent of Boko Haram is to abduct the children and train them to be part of their group. If this is true, then this is really bad, and we all should be united to stop this kind of horrific action.

Have a wonderful week.

I’ll talk to you next week.
