The New York Jets are still winless this season, after an expected loss to the Super Bowl champions. Kansas City handled Gang Green 35-9, with KC QB Patrick Mahomes throwing five touchdowns.
While the Jets had no chance, the Giants should have beaten Tampa Bay at home, but chocked away the lead to lose 25-23. Despite nearly tying, NY QB Daniel Jones had his bad game topped off by a controversial fail on a 2-point conversion, with the Buccaneers cleared of a pass interference call.
There may not be any doubt as to how uncompetitive the local teams are, but the rest of the games are a concern. Several players have tested positive for COVID-19
In college football, Rutgers isn’t a powerhouse just yet. team who loss a tough game. Turnovers doomed the Scarlet Knights to a 37-23 home opener loss to #17 Indiana. RU is now 1-1 on the season. Of course, the big story in the sport is the positive COVID-19 test of Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence, who missed a game against Boston College and will miss the game against Notre Dame.
In New Jersey High School Football, senior running back Montez Boswell led the Orange Tornadoes with 4 touchdowns in a 41-6 win over winless Millburn. The East Orange Jaguars mauled the Bloomfield Bengals on the road 46-0. West Side’s Rough Riders are now 4-1 on the season, beating Columbia 28-6. Dorian Sheppard led West Side with 199 yards passing. This weekend, Orange will be at home against a tough Belleville team, West Orange will be hosting Barringer, Montclair will host Irvington, and Paterson’s Eastside will be playing East Orange.
