Local teams took to the field for some New Jersey high school football this past week. The Orange High School Tornadoes blew away Barringer 55-13. OHS got stellar performances from Senior Montez Boswell who led orange with 205 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries, along with Edwin Thomas’ seven runs for 101 yards and a touchdown, and Maurice Williams’ 35 yard TD run.

In more action, the Irvington Blue Knights defeated Bayonne 32-6 for their first victory of the year, while the Shabazz Bulldogs beat Central High 16-8, Weequahic defeated Newark Collegiate 54-0 in a lopsided game. The East Orange Campus Jaguars defeated Livingston 33-6 at home, and Montclair tamed rival Bloomfield 57-14. Leading Montclair was Senior Michael Robinson who passed for 193 yards and three touchdowns.

In pro football, the NY Giants are still winless on the year, thanks to a 17-9 to the LA Rams. Also winless are the Houston Texans, who fired coach and GM Bill O’Brien. Closing out Week 4 was two Monday night football games, which was caused by the Sunday scheduled New England vs. Kansas City game being pushed back due to a positive COVID-19 test from Patriots QB Cam Newton. The Chiefs won that game 26-10, while the traditional Monday Night contest saw Green Bay beat Atlanta 30-16.

Finally, legendary St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Bob Gibson passed away on Oct. 2 after a bout with pancreatic cancer. Gibson went 251-174 with a 2.91 ERA and over 3,000 strikeouts in his career. He was 84.
