Newark, NJ (September 4, 2020) – Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, has been recognized as a High Performing Hospital for 2020-2021 by U.S. News & World Report for Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

The “High Performing” ratings signify that the care patients receive at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center for CHF and COPD is significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes. “High Performing” is the highest rating U.S. News awards for cardiac and pulmonology care.

“At Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, we are passionate about delivering world class care and superior service to the communities we serve. This recognition from U.S. News & World Report is a testament to our focus on safety and quality and the exceptional work being done by our staff,” said Darrell K. Terry, Sr., MHA, MPH, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey.

The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings, now in their 6th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for common conditions and elective procedures. These ratings extend U.S. News’ mission to provide a decision tool that helps the public identify hospitals that best meet their needs for relatively routine inpatient care compared to its Best Hospital rankings, which are geared toward complex specialty care.

For the 2020-2021 ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 10 procedures and conditions and fewer than a third of all hospitals received any high-performing rating.

“For more than 30 years, U.S. News & World Report has been helping patients, along with the help of their physicians, identify the Best Hospitals in an array of specialties, procedures and conditions,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “The hospitals that rise to the top of our rankings and ratings have deep medical expertise, and each has built a track record of delivering good outcomes for patients.”

The U.S. News Procedures & Conditions methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality such as risk-adjusted outcome rates, volume, quality of nursing and other care-related indicators. The Procedures & Conditions ratings were produced by U.S. News analysts.
