The Miami Marlins have turned Major League Baseball on its head, after at least 17 people with the team tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, the Yankees saw their series with the Phillies postponed because the Phillies played Miami, so they want to play it safe just in case. Also, the Washington Nationals have declined travelling to Miami for their series with the Marlins.
In NFL news, the New York Jets traded Pro-Bowl safety Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks for a pair of first-round picks. NY was unable to reach a contract agreement with Adams, and they really could have used him, as the AFC East is up for grabs with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay and several New England Patriots opting out of playing the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, in the NBA, the New York Knicks have a new head coach in Tom Thibodeau, replacing Mike Miller who served in the interim. He’ll have to wait until the next NBA season, as the Knicks did not qualify to play out the end of this one. One team that did was the Los Angeles Clippers, who will be without guard Lou Williams for a while. He was placed under mandatory quarantine after going to a strip club after a memorial service.
In college football, Rutgers football has halted workouts due to a COVID-19 outbreak, where six members of the program tested positive. Also, Monmouth University has cancelled its Fall football season.
Finally, Orange Firefighter Shantal Athill competed in Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s TV competition show “The Titan Games” taking on Courtney Roselle in head to head challenges. Both women vied for the chance to compete with reigning titans on Mount Olympus.
This was the East Region segment of The Titan Games. The 29-year-old Athill competed in the Nuts and Bolts segment, as well as the Lunar Impact. The show was filmed in January of this year, before the pandemic. Athill is a Former Montclair High School all-state track star. Her fellow Orange firefighters attended the games to support Shantal along with her father and a personal friend.
