A bright young voice and a student advocate shone on the international stage as a sixth grader from the Bloomfield School District.
Anu Lingeswaran delivered an inspiring presentation titled “Teamwork and Leadership – From the Classroom to the World” at the International Youth Conference held at the International Social Justice Commission in New York City on Sept. 26. Addressing a large audience of students, educators, and youth leaders from around the world, Anu spoke passionately about the power of teamwork and the importance of developing the community from an early age.

Anu’s presentation highlighted how skills learned in the classroom, such as collaboration, problem-solving, and effective communication, can grow into powerful tools that help develop the community. She encouraged her peers to take initiative, support one another, and embrace opportunities to lead, even in small ways. Her message was both motivating and relatable, resonating deeply with the young audience and inspiring them to see themselves as future leaders who can make a difference in their schools and communities.
Experts and educators at the conference praised Anu’s presentation for highlighting a crucial truth that leadership is not reserved for adults only; it begins in childhood. Anu further emphasized, “When children are given chances to work together, solve problems, and take responsibility, they build confidence and essential skills that prepare them for success in higher education, careers, and beyond.”

Anu’s message was a powerful reminder that the leaders of tomorrow are sitting in today’s classrooms. With guidance, encouragement, and opportunities, young people like Anu are proof that leadership and teamwork truly have the power to transform the world.
Anu wants to credit her classroom teachers and parents for their unwavering support and guidance, emphasizing that leadership is not a solo journey but one nurtured by encouragement, mentorship, and shared experiences. Her gratitude reflected the strong foundation that families and schools provide in helping children discover and develop their potential.
