Hello Readers,
Former Newark Council President Donald Bradley passed away on July 24, 2025. Local Talk’s staff and I will pray for his soul and offer condolences to his family and friends. Known as Don Bradley, he served as Newark Councilman for 17 years. In 1989, he ran for South Ward councilman and was elected as council president in his last term.
The Democrats has protested against gerrymandering in Texas. If the Republicans are successful, the other side might lose 5 congressional seats in Texas. However, when there was gerrymandering in New Jersey, due to it being a strong Democratic area, nothing happened. Nia Gill was a victim of gerrymandering and political games. Former Governor Richard Codey ran against Nia Gill, with more votes coming out of Codey’s district. Right after winning the election, Codey resigned and former West Orange Mayor John McKeon was installed as NJ State Senator.
The high-profile case against sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is moving forward. Republican James Comer, a chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has issued subpoenas to former President Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton and eight other individuals. This came as soon as the Trump administration decided to release more federal files on the late financier Epstein.
India is the largest importer of Russian oil. When oil prices were going up, India made a deal with Russia around 2022, saving $25 billion in a great trade deal. However, the US believes that India is indirectly supporting Russia in the Russian-Ukraine War. President Trump originally made a deal with India on 13% tariffs. However, a couple weeks ago, Trump made a deal of 25% goods coming from India.
Now, he is trying to force India to stop buying oil from Russia. So, Trump changed his tune and informed India that he will raise the tariff against them. India is the largest exporter to US when it comes to generic medicines. Also, India exports about $488 million in steel and steel products to US. With the rise in tariffs, India can face an economic crunch. However, India does not have much effect on their work export in computer technology. India used to be dependent on the US 10-15 years ago. Now, India has become a power and is more self-sufficient than ever before. We all have to wait and watch Trump’s next move.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamín Netanyahu has announced a full occupation in Gaza. Will Israel get the support of the world in this idea? I don’t think so. Many countries, including the UK, has told Israel to either stop the war or Palestine would be declared as a separate nation. This might be problematic for Israel. Declaring Palestine a separate nation may make a permanent threat for Israel.
