This past month, the Essex County College women’s basketball team signed three new players to their program. These new recruits will help steer the program in the right direction for the upcoming season.
Despite last year’s 6-13 record, head coach Jahreal Cadogan said that the team is moving in the right direction, and that signing three new top players will get Essex County College back to its winning ways.
Aniya Brown, the first top prospect who was a transfer from Union County College, said, “I’m very excited to be part of the program and hope to bring leadership and help our program.”

Brown, who played at Bloomfield High School during her high school days, won the NJCAA Division 2 Region 19 Championship at UCC this past season.
Another key signee who signed with ECC was Gabriella Brown who dominated at Roselle Catholic High School.

Finally, Essex County College will also welcome Essence Cushionberry, who will graduate in June. She played for Lloyd C. Bird High School in Chesterfield County, Virginia. At the press conference, Cushionberry said, “I’m excited to take this next step. I want to get better and show everyone what I can do.

In other news, the Lincoln Avenue School Panthers cheerleading squad took their talents to Jackson, New Jersey and Six Flags Great Adventure to compete in a cheerfest competition. Under the leadership of Michelle Bowers, the squad took first place in the Elementary division.




Finally, in surprising baseball news, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has announced that several deceased players who were banned from the game for various reasons will be reinstated. Among those now eligible for Hall of Fame consideration are “Shoeless” Joe Jackson and Pete Rose.
