Hello Readers,
Back in December, Mr. Brian Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare, was shot dead outside of a hotel in New York. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has asked that the accused, Luigi Mangione, be given the death penalty if he is found guilty. Wow, our judiciary system got fast and is working for the people. However, people who are at the topmost positions, like a healthcare CEO, tend to get justice faster than regular folks, even after his death. How many murders are not even solved, and how many murders are solved, but the accused court cases stay withing the judiciary system, and the accused stay in a jail for a long time. I wish they work on all the cases like this one.
Layoffs started with notice of dismissals in the U.S. Health and Human Services Departments. As the news says, about 10,000 employees will be dismissed as of April 1, 2025. As I learned in Economics, to create jobs for the government, they can dig a hole and fill the hole and give work to the citizens. The outcome is nil for the work, but the outcome for the employment is humongous. That is the ultimate way to create jobs for the government. Trump wants to downsize the government, I agree. But he should think about the livelihood of the employees who get fired. They might get a stipend and unemployment as well, but the process of living might be disturbed. Starting life in a new direction may be tough for the employees and their families.
There will be a protest against President Trump and billionaire Elon Musk on the streets of Essex County cities including Newark, Orange, Montclair, Irvington, Oranges and more. Is Trump doing right to deport undocumented immigrants who entered within the last five years? It is very difficult to take sides. However, if it is just a political move, then I will not support it. If it is in a real sense of supporting people who lost their jobs and are US citizens, I will support the protest. I think everything should not be political. It should be supporting the righteousness and we all should stand behind the truth. Just a political movement is not enough to get the support of people. We are US citizens and we all should support the betterment of the United States.
Self-serve gas stations are in all the states except New Jersey. Right now, New Jersey has a bill or resolution to allow self-service at gas stations between 8 am to 8 pm. All of the self-serve gas stations are mainly working with credit cards or debit cards. If it is working in all the other states, why not have the same system here, which will save lots of money for the car owners? As long as there is at least one employee is on the premises and helping disabled people and older people who need help. I had a problem using a self-help pump when I visited the first time out of state. I learned without any problem. In the same way, New Jersyans will learn as well. It is happening in almost all of the United States, including Oregon, so why not in New Jersey?
As of my writing this, Senator Cory Booker was still on the Senate floor doing a filibuster to protest the policies of President Trump and his associate Elon Musk. He started at 7 p.m. on March 31, and filibustered into the next month, successfully breaking the record for the longest filibuster. That old record was held by Strom Thurmond at 24 hours and 18 minutes. Thurmond was protesting against the Civil Rights Act of 1957, which is sad that someone would be that committed to being so cruel. As for Booker, the questions arise, is he protesting because he really wants to have a heart for the people, or is he just trying to rally the Democratic Party, or is he trying to start another Presidential bid, or maybe a little of all of the above?
Have a wonderful week. I’ll talk to you next week.
