NEWARK – On June 19, local community organizations teamed up to host an exciting day of hoops and harmony.

In celebration of Juneteenth, Hear My Cries (HMC) and United Community Corporation (UCC) held the 2024 Juneteenth Youth Basketball Tournament at West Side Park Community Center. Over 200 people came out to enjoy the action, which included fun filled family activities, community resources, and even a performance from up and coming artist Trece7ev.

The title game went to overtime, with Global Studies from Newark walking away with the hardware.

HMC founder Felicia “Lisa” James thanked everyone for coming out and for taking part in the tournament, including the residents, teams, organizers, community center and partner UCC, who is celebrating 60 years of serving the community.
