This past weekend, the second annual Jamar Summers ambitious football camp took place at Central Playground. There were about 187 participants that took place, with ages ranging from 5-13 and also 14-17. The youth at this camp did warmups to stretch beforehand and worked on developing ball handling skills.
There was a seven on seven scrimmage there were current and former football players, featuring XFL star Jamar Summers who played for the Vegas Vipers. Another player at the event was local favorite Jason Alford, who won Super Bowl XLII with the New York Giants and even sacked Tom Brady in the closing moments.
Other football players that played college and high school football included Juwann Winfree from the Indianapolis Colts, Nyquee Hawkins from the University of Virginia Tech, Taquan Roberson from the University of Connecticut and Rasul Douglas from the Green Bay Packers, plus former East Orange Campus football player Anthony Brown from the Baltimore Ravens. One key supporter of this event was former New York Giants defensive back Jabrill Peppers, who also stopped by.
“It’s about giving back to the community. We have a lot of talented kids in our community,” Jamar Summers said.
Finally, unless something strange happens, Victor Wenbanyama is expected to be the first player drafted in the 2023 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs.
