On May 13th, it was opening day for the Ivy Hill Little League, a special day not just for the players, but for Mr. Houston Stevens and family.

The occasion was special because the baseball field in the park they play on is now Houston Stevens Field.

Houston, as he is known in Ivy Hill, has been very instrumental in making sure the Ivy Hill Community has resources, information, and a sports program for the children. He’s been one of the leaders and a voice for Ivy Hill for over 30 years.

The celebration had another special treat, as the park now has a new football field and soccer field thanks to County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, better known as Joe D, and his team.

The morning started out with a parade featuring the Little League players football players, soccer players, parents and coaches from all three sports, community residents, and Houston’s family and friends.

This was an awesome event and goes to show what can happen when you are active in your community, believe in your community and live to enrich your community.

There were several speakers that brought words of inspiration and encouragement. “The Mayor of Ivy Hill” is a nickname that many call Mr. Houston Stevens, a much deserved honor, and right on time.

Hats off to Houston for a job well done.
