ESSEX – Chairwoman Marion A. Bolden and the Essex County College Board of Trustees congratulates Augustine A. Boakye, Ph.D. on his appointment as Interim President of Essex County College. Because of the challenges facing all higher education institutions due to the pandemic, the Board of Trustees seeks to provide ample time for a smooth transition for our Interim President and for Dr. Anthony E. Munroe as he transitions to Borough of Manhattan Community College.

For the last eleven years, Dr. Boakye has served Essex County College as an Acting Dean of Liberal Arts and Business, a Chairperson of the Business Division, and an Associate Professor of Economics/Finance. Dr. Boakye recently received the International Teaching Excellence Award from the international Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). While serving as Chair, Dr. Boakye spearheaded efforts to secure accreditation from the ACBSP, one of only two community colleges in the state to be so recognized.

Under his leadership, Essex County College has received accreditation for several programs, including the American Bar Association (ABA) Extension Approval for the Paralegal Studies Program (A.S.). Additionally, Dr. Boakye championed the creation of several new academic programs in areas such as Finance, Supply Chain Management, and Business. He is also the founder of the popular Business Week and Business Plan Competition at Essex County College.

“I am truly honored to be appointed as Interim President to lead this historic institution,” Dr. Boakye stated. “With our dedicated faculty and staff, ECC continues to serve a diverse population and transform lives with its many academic and non-academic programs. As an internal candidate, I am well aware of the challenges facing ECC during this unprecedented time and look forward to working with everyone to move Essex forward. I am grateful to the Board of Trustees and the College Community’s trust in me and willingness to support me to reposition ECC. “I am committed to advance our mission during this period of transition for all our students, staff and alumni.”

Chairwoman Bolden concluded, “The Trustees and I look forward to working with Dr. Boakye. I am confident that ECC will continue to provide quality academic instruction and exceptional training programs for the entire Essex County College Community.”
