The East Orange Campus High School Jaguars football team accomplished what they wanted, which was to get a state championship. Longtime head coach Rae Oliver, a graduate of Orange High School, led the EOCHS program to their first ever state championship, and finishing with a 13-0 record.

Recently, the team was honored by the East Orange School District. Attending the event were community leaders, family and friends of the Jaguars football team as the team members received their championship rings. East Orange Superintendent of Schools Abdul Saleem Hasan attended along with EOCHS Athletic Director Michael Baldwin.

Coach Oliver received the highest honor for this past season, as he was named Head Coach of the Year for his great work along with his coaching staff.

In other news, the Yankees and Mets started their 2022 baseball seasons, with their own set of concerns. The Yanks will have Aaron Judge’s contract status hanging over their heads, while the Mets are concerned about Jacob deGrom and his string of injuries.

Finally, in sad news, quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Jr. has tragically passed away after being hit by a truck on I-595 near a training facility in Florida. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2018 after starting at Ohio State, where he threw a Big Ten Conference record 50 touchdowns. After leaving OSU, Haskins was drafted by Washington, but was released only a couple years into his pro career. He recently played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Haskins is survived by his wife, Kalabrya, parents Dwayne Sr. and Tamara, and younger sister, Tamia. He was only 24.
