The 7th Annual Monte Irvin baseball tournament took place this past weekend in Orange at Central Playground. It was a two day event organized by Wally Boyett who has done so for about seven years. Baseball teams from all over the tri-state area came to town to participate.

On July 24, the last day of the tournament, the Philly Blue Jays defeated the Black Sox, while the Brooklyn Tigers defeated the Monte Irvin Giants in the semifinal round 4-1. In the other semifinal round game, the Queens Comets beat the Philly Blue Jays, and eventually won the championship game over the Brooklyn Tigers.

This marked the 2nd year in a row in which the Queens Comets took the crown.
