The National Football League’s conference championship games took place this past weekend, and produced quite a matchup for Super Bowl LV.
In the first game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers braved the cold and won the NFC Title at Lambeau Field, beating the Green Bay Packers 31-26. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers went 33-48 for 346 yards and 3 TDs, but was denied a chance to tie the game late, when head coach Matt LaFleur opted for a field goal instead of going for a TD, which could have led to Green Bay tying the game. Now, Bucs QB Tom Brady will head to his 10th career Super Bowl, seeking his 7th win and first with his new team.
As for the AFC Crown, that will stay with the Kansas City Chiefs, who defended Arrowhead Stadium in a 38-24 win over the Buffalo Bills. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes led the defending champs on 29-38 passing for 325 yards. Now, Mahomes will seek to lead his team to back-to-back world titles, as Kansas City will play Tampa Bay for football’s biggest prize. The game has one unique wrinkle, as for the first time in history, the game will be played on one team’s home turf, with the Buccaneers hosting at their Raymond James Stadium.
The Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2021 will feature – no one. Of the players on the ballot, not one of them got the 75% needed for entry into the Hall.
In college basketball, Rutgers just came off a five game losing streak with a surprise win on the road against Indiana 74-70. Meanwhile, the Seton Hall women’s basketball team has been doing well this season. They recently won a big game at home against Xavier 85-59, and now sit at 8-3 this season as of this posting.
This week, the New Jersey high school basketball season will begin. Due to COVID-19 regulations, there will no fans allowed at the games this year.
