Weather forecasters are expecting a massive winter storm to blanket our area in snow and heavy winds.

The Northeast storm, known as a Nor’easter, will drop between 12 to 24 inches (1 to 2 feet) of snow from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday. Additionally, there will be winds gusting to 50 mph or higher in some places. Widespread power outages are likely.

Additionally, while there has been no official word about it, commuters can expect suspensions of service, which may include NJ Transit buses and trains, Coach USA and more.

Roads are expected to be hazardous or even impassable. Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. and Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura have asked residents not to park on county roads from Wednesday, December 16th to Thursday, December 17th. Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose has also advised residents to observe the city’s “No Parking on Snow Covered Roads” regulations.
