Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. announced that a suspect has been charged in connection with the death of one of the two men killed during a shooting in a Newark recording studio on December 10, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Naim Andrews, 20, of Newark, has been charged with first-degree murder and related weapons offenses in the death of Namir Bynum, 20, of Newark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Surveillance video shows Andrews and a second individual, Osayuwamen Iyamu, 20, of Newark, attacking Bynum. Bynum was shot by Andrews. In an apparent act of self-defense, Bynum fired a weapon, fatally striking Iyamu and injuring Andrews. A fourth individual was also injured in the shooting. He was treated for his injuries and released that same evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Andrews remains hospitalized at University Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These allegations are merely accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor\u2019s Office Tips Line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
