First, Mikie Sherrill won in a landslide in New Jersey to be the 57th governor. She will also be the first woman democrat in charge, while her lieutenant governor Dale Caldwell will be the first Black male in that spot, following women like Sheila Oliver and Tahesha Way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polls had Jack Ciattarelli as close as one percent, but as of now Mikie is up by double digits. Also, Sherrill flipped back the counties that Trump took in last year\u2019s election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outside of NJ, Abigail Spanberger also won in a blowout in Virginia. She will serve as its first woman governor. Of course, the biggest race in the nation was in New York City, where Zohran Mamdani shocked the country to win the NYC mayoral race. He will be the first Muslim to be mayor of the nation\u2019s largest city and one of the youngest in the city\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the Democrats dominance, one has to ask, was the decision to shut down the government really about health care, or was it intentional to swing voters, using anger against Trump and the Republicans?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between 2018-2019 under President Trump\u2019s first term, the government was shut down for 35 days &#8211; the longest time ever. By the time you read this, that record will have been broken. Even today there is no sign of a deal between both parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump said that they will pay partial money to SNAP, so they can distribute food. Per NBC: \u201cThe Trump administration said Monday (Nov. 3) it would provide partial payments to about 42 million food stamp recipients in November, though the White House warned the funds could take as long as months to reach households.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, now there\u2019s talk of an appeal against it. Either way, this does not seem like a solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The civilian personnel who are not connected to emergency and essential services will continue to work without pay. Those non-essential workers will be furloughed until a settlement between Republicans and Democrats is reached on the budget. Trump are trying to tell the Republican to end the filibuster system. However, it is necessary to protect the minority party so the majority party does not take over as a dictatorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eight Democrats are negotiating a deal to reopen the government. They are: Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.), Jon Ossoff (Ga.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) and Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.). Hopefully, they will negotiate a deal for the benefit of the people and start moving forward to normalize the lives of everyone and the government employees as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, it is not a foolproof system. Our forefathers did their best to protect the people of the country, but it is not perfect. The democrats spent millions of dollars on advertising for people to vote and to add 5 more seats in California by redistricting &#8211; which passed. This is in opposition of Trump and the Republicans using redistricting and possibly gaining five seats in the state of Texas. Redistricting maps is a way both parties try to benefit their party to gain more seats in an assembly, whether in state or in Congress. Proper redistricting happens every 10 years after the US census is recorded. Politicians are always trying to take advantage of it, but as long as the common people do not get hurt, people generally do not mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Have a nice week.
