Hello Readers,

This is our 25th anniversary special edition. Thank you to everyone who made Local Talk possible. Our staff, our readers, our advertisers, our family and friends. Thank you all.

The holiday season is right around the corner. In November, we have the great family holiday of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is to be thankful (or thank God) for life and food to survive. At the same time, we thank the family for their support, have good times together and do some bonding.

Hurricane Melissa has hit Jamaica at Category 5 – the strongest hurricane category. hit to Jamaica. The 185 miles per hour winds devastated almost the whole island, along with rain and flooding. Jamaica will need lots of help from every direction. Food, transportation, housing, schooling, life necessities, water, businesses and in every part of life, they will need help. I hope we can help in the best way possible. I visited Jamaica in the 1980s. It’s a beautiful country, with well-mannered people. Duns River Fall is a unique experience. With a guide, one must climb up to the start of the fall. It’s a great experience and a lot of fun. Negril beach is a wonderful experience with the beach and water rides, including a banana boat. The seven mile long beach has lots of fun along with horse riding.

Dozens of states are suing the Trump administration for cutting SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). Yes, there are problems with some of the SNAP recipients not actually being legal in receiving the food program benefits as I’ve heard. However, don’t make it problematic or tough for the real recipients who need it most. Please try to study the program, find the loopholes and then amend it to cut the illegal recipients.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to strike Gaza immediately. The problem happened when Hamas did not have a body of the hostage and showed aggression. Netanyahu said it’s a clear violation of the Israel-Gaza ceasefire deal. We don’t know what happened. However, if Israel made a mistake, will the US stand in favor of Palestine? No. If the same mistake is repeated by Hamas, then Israel has the right, but by one mistake (it might be a genuine mistake) they should be given the benefit of doubt in my opinion.

The Miss Universe Pageant started in 1952. From 1952 to 1993 India had not one a single Pageant. In 1994, the first Miss Universe from India was Sushmita Sen. In 2000, Lara Dutta won the honor. In 2021, Harnaaz Sandhu became Miss Universe. On Friday, October 21, Manika Vishwakarma was crowned Miss Universe. Why all of a sudden are more Miss Universes coming out of India. I think the main reason is that English became a part of the life in India. There are training schools to train them for walking, answering questions and keeping good behavior at the Miss Universe pageant. The United States has won the most at 9 times, followed by Venezuela at 7 times, Puerto Rico at 5 times and the Philippines at 4 times. A total of 38 countries have won at least one pageant in the past 74 years.

Have a wonderful week. I’ll talk to you next week.
