This is the second-consecutive recognition for Newark Beth Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Newark Beth Israel ranked among the top 250 U.S. hospitals and is one of only five New Jersey hospitals on this prestigious list, which also includes The Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins and Massachusetts General.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is truly an honor to receive this designation for a second time. Newark Beth Israel remains committed to delivering world class, high quality, safe care and an excellent experience to all of our patients and their families,\u201d said Darrell K. Terry, Sr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children\u2019s Hospital of New Jersey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe worldwide COVID-19 pandemic has made clear, among other lessons, that having first-rate frontline care can be a matter of life or death. It has never been more crucial to know where to turn for health care for yourself or a loved one when confronted with a health crisis or a frightening diagnosis,\u201d said Nancy Cooper, Global Editor in Chief of <em>Newsweek<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to this recognition, the facility has also been named a Best Maternity Care Hospital by Newsweek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe deliver approximately 3,000 babies at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center every year and the health and safety of those newborns and their mothers are our top priority. It is an honor to receive this national designation for providing high quality, safe care and an excellent experience to our expecting families, said Terry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Newark Beth Israel is one of 231 hospitals across the country that demonstrated excellence in maternity care, including nine New Jersey hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The distinction recognizes facilities that have excelled in providing care to mothers, newborns and their families, as verified by the 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Best Maternity Care Hospitals is part of <em>Newsweek\u2019s <\/em>Best Health Care series, powered by data from The Leapfrog Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hospitals named as Best Maternity Care Hospitals have fully met The Leapfrog Group\u2019s standards for maternity care on evidence-based, nationally standardized metrics. This includes lower rates of early elective delivery, NTSV C-section, and episiotomy, as well as compliance with process measures including newborn bilirubin screening prior to discharge and blood clot prevention techniques for mothers delivering via C-section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSafety is at the core of everything we do to guide our expecting parents through a healthy pregnancy and a rewarding labor and delivery experience,\u201d said Khalid Sawaged, DO, FACOG, Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. \u201cJust as Newark Beth Israel continues to meet and or exceed national safety and quality metrics, we have built a program that does better than benchmark in key maternity quality measures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Newsweek <\/em>created the World\u2019s Best Hospital listings in partnership with Statista Inc., a respected data-research firm.
