YOU KNOW ME\u2026This week\u2019s Picture That<\/em> submissions is all about the faces, the presence, and the people who represent our Hood and knowingly or unknowingly become my muse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes an image or aesthetic stops me before a name or theme ever does. A posture, a stare, a walk, a style, a spirit – something in the frame speaks or one of my permanent muses image pop in my head at random and I demand the dump. These are not just pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are human records. Visual evidence. Pieces of who we are, how we move, how we are seen, and how we deserve to be remembered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our image matters. It shapes identity. It shifts perception. It teaches the world how to recognize our beauty, our struggle, our power, and our place in the story of mankind. Before people read our words, they often read our image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I am asking: Do you know them? Have you seen them? What do you think when you see them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Study the picture. Read the person. Then tell me what you see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 I asked Chatgpt what is Hood. It Said\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using Urban Dictionary<\/strong>, \u201chood\u201d<\/strong> can mean a person who comes from the inner city and carries the essence of urban culture. One definition makes a clear distinction: a person can be hood<\/strong> without being ghetto<\/strong>. In that sense, hood<\/strong> can be pride, survival, style, street knowledge, hometown love, and cultural identity \u2014 not just poverty or crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But \u201cthe hood\u201d<\/strong> is also commonly defined as a poor urban area, often associated in mainstream language with gangs, crime, and struggle. That is the part you may want to challenge in your work, because the word often gets flattened into stereotype.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For The Observation Booth<\/strong>, I would frame it like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hood is not just a place. Hood is a memory, a mannerism, a survival code, a rhythm, a warning system, a style, a schooling, and sometimes a wound. It is where image gets judged before the story gets heard.
