ZILBERMINTS

NEWARK – In its April 9 issue Local Talk wrote about the allegations of corruption that former Newark Housing Authority (NHA) Commissioner Alif Muhammad made against current Mayor Ras Baraka; his brother and chief of staff Amiri Baraka Jr.; NHA Chairman Brian K. Logan; and other people, both current and past members of NHA and the Newark Municipal Council. In part, the article noted that certain federal and state laws were broken.

The current article goes more in depth. Local Talk did its usual diligent legal research on federal and state laws. In particular, Title 18 United States Code (U.S.C.) was allegedly violated at least six times. New Jersey Statutes Annotated (N.J.S.A.) was also violated. Sources include Cornell Law School’s Legal Information Institute and the website https://law.justia.com/codes/new-jersey/title-2c/section-2c-30-2/.

Legal research shows that depending on which count(s) potential defendants are charged with could mean prison for quite a time. It could mean anywhere from one year to thirty years. Again, this is for the courts to decide. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. And now, the legal analyses.

FEDERAL LAW:

18.
