Central Islip on Long Island had a record snowfall of 31”. Most of the Long Island had between 25” to 31” of snow. The Local Talk area had about 20-25 inches of snow. With Newark Airport reaching over 27 inches.

Staten Island led NYC with up to 29 inches. The borough was hit the hardest, as resources were not readily available to the residents, making the people very upset with Mayor Mamdani. Strange enough, Staren Island boasted the most voters that did not vote for Mamdani in last years’ election. Was it payback?

The biggest national story of this week is the Supreme Court’s Judgment against the tariffs. President Trump was walking very high with the magic wand of tariffs to shape the world. However, the Supreme Court has made a judgement that he does not have the right to certain emergency tariffs. Congress has the right for such tariffs and Trump has called an emergency wrongfully.

According to Trump he has authority under the International Emergency for Economy Power’s Act (IEEPA). But a 6-3 came against him. If he is raising the tariffs, how come he gave Nvidia (World leader in Artificial intelligence Computing) a 25% tariff to computer chips manufactured outside US in which the majority of the shipment goes to China, and it must be shipped through US or direct shipping in approved market only. The agreement was made while tariff negotiations were going on in 2025. The tariff was enacted in January 2026. This is the way Trump wants to raise money. A 15% global tariff is replacing those ended by the Supreme Court judgment, under section 221 of the trade act of 1974.

A Mexican Cartel is spreading violence near the Puerto Vallarta area. Many Americans are stranded in Puerto Vallarta and Punta Mita, a luxury resort. Our government is trying to help and secure their safe return. However, the cartels, who have a strong connection with the Mexican Government, is harder to control. We all hope that the Americans stranded will survive and get home safely.

Trump has the lowest approval rating as per the news. His policies against undocumented immigrants, the two deaths caused by ICE officials, and his tariff policies which impacted the Americans living in the United States due to higher prices affected his rating. Due to his unpopularity, the Republicans might lose the control of the House and Senate in the upcoming elections in November. However, the Democrats do not have any strong leader in the upcoming November election as well as the presidential election in 2028.

Newark is looking to name and shame its worst landlords. If it is fair, then yes, it would help residents by knowing who to avoid and to push the landlords to act better. However, if it only affects those who are not friends with the administration, then that is wrong. If your friends are bad landlords, call them out too.

Congratulations to all the Olympians who competed in the Winter Olympics. This is especially true for the men’s and women’s hockey teams, who both beat Canada to win the Gold. The Gold win for the men’s team was the first since the “Miracle on Ice” in 1980.

Have a wonderful week.
