{"id":53,"date":"2020-07-27T21:19:46","date_gmt":"2020-07-27T21:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localtalkweekly.com\/?page_id=53"},"modified":"2020-09-26T13:35:21","modified_gmt":"2020-09-26T13:35:21","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/localtalkweekly.com\/index.php\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"ABOUT US"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WHAT WE DO<\/strong>: Local Talk\u2019s goal is to serve under-served and minority communities with quality, unbiased news and improve quality of life via information. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dhiren Shah, the principal owner of <strong>Local Talk Printing<\/strong> started the business in 1985.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Local Talk Printing<\/strong> came into existence in 1985, under the name <strong>Business Card Factory<\/strong>. A few years later, the business moved from Maplewood to Orange, NJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After seeing how local residents were lacking community-oriented positive news, Shah started <strong>Local Talk Newspaper<\/strong> in November 2000 as a monthly publication with a circulation of 5,000 newspapers a month. On February 22, 2002, <strong>Local Talk<\/strong> began publishing on a weekly basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to the popularity of <strong>Local Talk Weekly Newspaper<\/strong>, the printing business name was eventually changed to <strong>Local Talk Printing<\/strong> to coincide with that success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2010, Local Talk Community Foundation launched the High School Public Speaking Competition. In its history, the competition has produced over $22,000 in scholarships for Essex County high school students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July 2015, <strong>Local Talk<\/strong> moved to Newark, NJ. Four months later, the publication was upgraded to a new format, with new content, lower advertising rates, and all-color pages. This was done in an effort to make our publication more hyperlocal and innovative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the global COVID-19 pandemic, on June 1, 2020, Local Talk had a \u201chomecoming\u201d back to Maplewood, in order to facilitate a strategic comeback to make the publication \u201cbetter than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Local Talk Newspaper\u2019s<\/strong> current (non-pandemic) readership is between 36,000 &#8211; 40,000 per week. Meanwhile, <strong>Local Talk Printing<\/strong> has served tens of thousands of customers for over 35 years.
